How to Make an AI Video from Text (Step-by-Step)
Turning text into video with AI is faster than ever. This step-by-step guide walks you through choosing a model, writing a prompt that works, and generating your first clip on FAV.
Text-to-video AI lets you describe a scene in plain language and get a finished clip back in minutes — no camera, no editing suite. This guide takes you from a blank prompt box to your first generated video, step by step.
Step 1: Pick the right model
Different models suit different goals. On FAV, a quick way to choose: Seedance 2.0 for flexible, multi-reference generation up to 1080p; Veo 3.1 when you want native audio and a cinematic look; the Fast variants of either when you want to iterate cheaply.
New to this?
Start with Seedance 2.0 Fast — it is the cheapest model to run, so you can experiment freely while you learn what prompts work.
Step 2: Write a prompt that works
A good video prompt does more than name a subject — it describes the scene, the motion, the camera and the style. Think of it as briefing a cinematographer.
- 1Subject and action: what is happening, and what moves.
- 2Setting: where it takes place, time of day, weather, mood.
- 3Camera: angle and movement (e.g. "slow dolly in", "FPV camera hurtling forward").
- 4Style: the visual language (e.g. "cinematic", "anime sakuga", "cyberpunk neon").

Notice how that prompt specifies the subject, the motion, the camera behavior and the style — that specificity is what separates a flat result from a dynamic one.
Step 3: Set resolution, duration and ratio
- Resolution: higher looks better but costs more per second. 720p is a good default; reserve 1080p/4K for finals.
- Duration: Seedance is flexible (up to 15s); Veo uses fixed 4/6/8s. Shorter clips cost less and iterate faster.
- Aspect ratio: 16:9 for landscape, 9:16 for vertical/social, 1:1 for square.
Step 4: Generate and refine
Submit the job and the model queues your generation. On FAV, credits are reserved up front and any overpayment is refunded automatically once the real output is measured. When it completes, review the result and refine your prompt — small wording changes (camera direction, lighting, pacing) often make a big difference. Iterate on a cheap Fast model, then re-run your best prompt at higher resolution for the final.
How billing works
Credits are pre-deducted when you submit. If a generation fails on the server side, you are refunded automatically. You never pay more than the rate shown before you hit generate.
Step 5: Use your video
Once complete, download the clip or re-use it as a reference for a follow-up generation. Models like Kling O3 Pro can even take a finished video back as input for editing — so your first generation can become the starting point for the next.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to generate an AI video?
Most clips generate in a few minutes depending on model, resolution and queue. FAV polls the job and notifies you when it completes; video jobs time out and refund after 60 minutes if something goes wrong.
What makes a good text-to-video prompt?
Specify four things: subject and action, setting, camera angle/movement, and visual style. Vague prompts produce flat results; detailed, cinematic prompts produce dynamic ones.
Do I need any video editing skills?
No. Text-to-video generates the finished clip from your description. You can optionally refine by editing the prompt or using a video-to-video model afterward.
How much does it cost to make an AI video?
Cost is credit-based and depends on the model, resolution and duration you choose. The Fast variants are the cheapest to run, and the exact cost is always shown before you generate. New users start free — see the pricing page for current rates.
